Dr. Edith L. Shapira is in the private practice of psychiatry in Shadyside. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of a number of non-profit institutions in Pittsburgh. These include: Riverlife Task Force, appointed by Mayor Tom Murphy. There she chaired the Urban Design Committee until January 2003, at which time she became Co-chair of the Taskforce. She served as a member of a variety of task force committees including the executive committee, the nominating committee, and the search committee for the master planner to formulate a vision for Three Rivers Park. During this time, she has been involved in Riverlife's close co-operation with the SEA on riverfront projects such as the Convention Center, the North Shore Park, and the two stadiums. Pittsburgh Foundation, elected 2003 University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, which reorganized to Presbyterian-Shadyside Board of Directors, from 1995-2003. During that time she served on the Joint Conference Committee, the Patient Care Committee, the UPMC Community Health Committee, and the UPMC Quality Patient Care Committee. Institute for Transfusion Medicine, Parent Corporation of the Blood Bank, from 1997 to the present. There her activities included serving as a member of the nominating committee, which she now chairs. Winchester - Thurston School from 1989-2001. She was Vice-President of the Board, was on the Executive committee, chaired the Admissions and Marketing Committee and Committee on Trustees, and was a member of the Long Range Planning Committee. United Jewish Federation Urban Affairs Foundation from 1999-2001 Dr. Shapira graduated from Oberlin College, and then the University of Pittsburgh Medical School from which she graduated in 1980. She completed her psychiatric residency at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. As part of her professional activities, she has served on numerous hospital committees including the Clinical Care Committee of WPIC, which oversees clinical quality at that hospital. She was also on both the Medical Executive and Nominating Committees of UPMC Presbyterian. She is a member of the Allegheny County Medical and Pennsylvania Medical Societies, the American Medical and Psychiatric Societies, and the Pittsburgh Psychiatric Society. Edie is married with three children.
