John Chalovich was married to Rose Marie Scarpaci on September 1, 1962. Together they have three children, Michael, Jeffrey, and Sharon along with three grandchildren, Casey, Carly, and John.

John began working in the electrical trade in October of 1962 and was an apprentice with I.B.E.W. Local Union No. 5 from 1962 through 1967. He was initiated as a member of Local 5 on September 30, 1963, giving him 38 years of service with I.B.E.W. John first served on the I.B.E.W. Local Union No. 5 Federal Credit Union from 1974 through 1987 when he was then appointed as an Assistant Business Manager for Local 5. He was appointed to the office of Treasurer in January of 1991 and was appointed to the Vice President position in August of 1994 and then elected to the Vice President position in June of 1996. John then was appointed to the office of Business Manager/Financial Secretary of Local Union No. 5 on August 1, 1998 and then elected to the office of Business Manager/Financial Secretary in June of 1999 and is still serving in that capacity.

Throughout his tenure with Local Union No. 5, John has served on numerous committees and councils in numerous positions, of which include the following: Trustee for the Western Pennsylvania Electrical Employees Pension and Insurance Trust Fund; Trustee for the I.B.E.W. Local Union No. 5, Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee/National Electrical Contractors Association Apprenticeship and Scholarship Trust Fund; Trustee for the I.B.E.W. Local Union No. 5, Western Pennsylvania Chapter, N.E.C.A. Labor Management Cooperation Committee; Member of the Governor's Committee on labor Management; Member of the Pennsylvania State Electrical Workers Association; Executive Board Member of the Pennsylvania Building and Construction Trades Council; Board of Directors of the Western Pennsylvania Maglev Development Corporation; Executive Board member of the Builders Guild of Western Pennsylvania Advisory Council; Vice President/Executive Board Member of the Allegheny County Labor Council; Board of Trustees - Community College of Allegheny County; Councilman of Baldwin Borough from 1988 through 1998; Mayor's Commission on Public Education - Board Member; Sports & Exhibition Authority Board Member.
