SPECIAL EVENTS IN NORTH SHORE RIVERFRONT PARK

Overview

The North Shore is a dynamic place. People visit the park daily for recreation, dining and tours. Construction related to new development frequently impacts the space available as well as traffic conditions. The volume and variety of activity on the North Shore necessitates strong communication between event organizers and the multiple stakeholders involved.

Scheduling an Event

This section will help to guide you through the process of coordinating a North Shore event. Please reference the following steps as you plan:

Check the Pirates, Steelers and University of Pittsburgh game schedules to rule out potential conflicts.

Contact the SEA and the Mayor's Office of Special Events to request an event date. (Typically dates cannot be reserved more than 180 days in advance.)

Complete a SEA Special Events Application and the City of Pittsburgh's Special Event Permit Application.

Inform North Shore stakeholders (i.e. Pirates, Steelers, Carnegie Science Center, Continental Real Estate Companies, Alco Parking Corporation) of the event, particularly if it involves street closures, requires significant parking, or anticipates large crowds. SEA can provide contact information as necessary.

License Agreement

Once an application has been completed and approvals from the City/stakeholders have been secured, the SEA will issue a license agreement to be signed by the event organizer. This usually occurs in the month prior to the event.

License Fee

The SEA charges a license fee to use North Shore Riverfront Park . The fee is $50 an hour for the event itself (with a 4 hour minimum). An additional set-up and breakdown fee is $100 per day. License fees for use of parking lots will be determined on a case by case basis. Proceeds from license fees support North Shore Riverfront Park maintenance.

Security Deposit

A security deposit is taken by the SEA prior to each event, based on attendance. For events expecting less than 500 people, the deposit is $500. For events expecting between 500 and 1,000 people, the deposit is $1,000. For events over 1,000 people, the deposit is $1,500. Security deposits are fully refundable so long as the event organizer meets the requirements of the license agreement.

Certificate of Liability Insurance

The SEA requires that several or all of the following entities be named as additional insured's as part of the event's insurance coverage:

  • Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County
  • Stadium Authority of the City of Pittsburgh
  • City of Pittsburgh
  • Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Alco Parking Corporation
  • PSSI Stadium Corp.
  • Pittsburgh Associates
